Gran Canaria is the second most populous island of the Canary Islands. It's located in the part of the Atlantic known as Macaronesia and is a well loved holiday spot. There are many micro-climates around the mountains and higher altitudes on the island and snow is often visible on the mountain tops. There's lots of shopping in Gran Canaria but remember the locals shut for fiesta so shopping is simplest in the mornings or after 5 pm. The Gran Canaria Airport is the fifth busiest in Spain and is located approximately 25 km from well loved tourist destinations in the south. Iberia, British Airways and Thomson Glide are among the airlines which glide from London to Gran Canaria. A flight from Gatwick Airport takes approximately 4 hours or 6.5 with a layover in Madrid.
